Fall Drum Classes

Wednesdays (September only) at 7:30

By popular demand, I will continue to open my home to host weekly drum classes this fall.

We will explore West African and Afro-Cuban rhythms for the Djembe and Dunun. Specific exercises & techniques will be covered to help develop and strengthen our inner rhythm along with exploring a basic solo and how to contribute to a musical ensemble or drum circle. This class is designed for all levels of drummers. Beginners will be given simple accompaniments to help develop skill and technique while advanced drummers will be given more difficult accompaniments with an emphasis on polishing tones and slaps.

As part of our DNA, drumming awakens our natural ability to reduce stress, strengthen the immune system and release endorphins revealing an over all sense of well being. Group drumming is an excellent workout and has the amazing ability to relax and invigorate simultaneously. Participants will walk away feeling fantastic! No rhythmical or musical experience necessary. All drums and percussion are provided or you may bring your own.

Fees are $15 per class or $40 for the full 4 weeks and must be paid at the first class. RSVPs by phone or email are required. My home is located in Diamond Bar/Walnut, at the 57 FWY & Diamond Bar Blvd. Address and directions will be provided upon RSVP. Please call or email with any questions.

Sacred Sounds of Shamanism

Indigenous peoples of the Earth have known for thousands of years that drumming and sound is a deeply profound spiritual tool for healing, meditation, and rejuvenation. In recent years, these powerful tools have a newfound validity and appreciation as science proves what Shamans have always known.

In this fun and experiential PLAYshop, participants will gain comprehensive, hands-on skills in Shamanic drumming and sacred sound. Specific rhythms and techniques will be taught for the Djembe, frame drum, didgeridoo, shaker and bells along with sacred chants. Participants will also learn how to facilitate and receive the powerful healing energy of the drum.

With more than a decade of Shamanic & Rhythm study, Melinda & Rogelio will tap into their own indigenous ancestry to provide a day full of deeply primal, healing rhythm and sacred sound that will ignite your Spirit, balance your energy and soothe your soul. Sacred ceremony and the art of the Shamanic journey will also be explored as participants awaken their rhythm and reclaim their lineage to Mother Earth.

No experience necessary. All instruments will be provided, but please bring your own if you have them.
